RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Two rugby players from Frans du Toit High School in Phalaborwa were recently selected to represent South Africa at the Global Schools Challenge in Cambrils, Spain. Lukhanyo Mpayipheli and Xavier Buitendag were selected through UXI Sports, an invitational rugby programme that identifies promosing talent on school level. 

The two players joined other selected players from across South Africa to represent the UXI Panthers and UXI Tigers. Mpayipheli, a Grade 12 learner who plays at prop, said the experience was both challenging and rewarding. Lukhanyo was born in Rustenburg and is a former learner of Sunrise View Primary and Sunrise View High School. He started school in 2014 as a Grade R learner at Sunrise View Primary School where he crossed over to Grade 8 in 2022 to Sunrise View High School for the first and second term, when they relocated to Phalaborwa. He completed his Grade 8 at Frans du Toit High School in and is currently a Grade 12 learner at this school where he played first team rugby from Grade 11.
