Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - A Jouberton police officer was honoured at the NW provincial excellence awards that was held at Sun City last week.
Capt Adél Kruger received the IPID trophy as a special award for her heroism last year September when she foiled an armed robbery at a local supermarket. “Upon entering the shop while an armed robbery was ongoing, a shootout ensued between her and five robbers. Although she was shot in the leg, she managed to shoot and kill one robber. Another robber was also injured, but fled with his accomplices. He was later traced and arrested by police. All stolen property that included money, cigarettes and cellular phones were recovered. Her bravery saved the life of the innocent and ensured that the perpetrators were identified,” said Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson.
The SAPS Management in North West led by Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, supported by the MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, presented the annual excellence awards on Thursday November 16.
During the proceedings, winners were awarded with trophies, certificates, cash, holiday vouchers as well as electrical equipment for outstanding service and dedication in various categories, including Administration, Visible Policing, Detective and Forensic Services, Crime Intelligence, Protection and Security Services and the Provincial Commissioner’s Special Awards.
Potch SAPS was awarded police station of the year and Bloemhof the CPF of the Year.
Brigadier Sabatha Mokgwabone, the Provincial Head for Corporate Communication and Liaison Services, was announced as the winner in the Category: Senior Administration Manager of the year level 13-15.
