Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - It’s that time of the year again where everyone has a new year’s resolution of getting fit and Klerksdorp Marathon Club has the perfect event for you.

The annual Aurum Klerksdorp Marathon is happening once again on Sunday February 9.

The event offers the beginner an easy 5km event, the more regular runner a 10km run and the serious guys can choose between the 21km half-marathon or the 42km full qualifying marathon.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Ryu Kyu Goju Karate is celebrating their 10th anniversary. 

They want to thank all who believed in Ryu Kyu GoJu Karate and supported them, Master Louise Viviers (MASA President), Master Tjolla Louw (MASA Vice President, President GTMA SA, Founder of USF) and also Sensei Thomas from Kyokushin Karate, Sensei Sakkie from Shorei Martial Arts, and all students and parents, without their support and encouragement all this will not be possible.

Ryu kyu GoJu Karate is proud of the achievements in 2024, and hopes to do even better in 2025. 

They produced 11 national champions for 2024, their black belt student completed medical training, as well as referee courses, cut-men courses for kickboxing.

They are also a member of “The Guardian” (Safe Guard) that serves in protection of Child/ Woman abuse, and any criminal offences. 

They are affiliated with Global Martial Arts (GTMA) as well as Ultimate Strike Force (USF).

Klerksdorp Record, Leeudoringstad - A local policeman is one of the province’s top pool players.

Vincent Maphazi plays blackball and eightball and he is the 8ball NW player of the year 2024.

He is affiliated with NW Pool under Eightball and under SABF under SAPS and has provincial colours under NW Pool and SA colours under SABF.

Last year he qualified in Cape Town to represent SA at the EBA Nations Cup of Blackball Pool held in England. “I really struggled to get the funds as each and every player was expected to pay for himself with an amount over R45 000, but I eventually got helped after that long struggle,” he said. 

He has qualified again to represent SA in April and is asking for financial assistance.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Four local swimmers have entered the Midmar Mile Charity 8 Mile Swim in KZN to raise funds for a charity called Happy Bundles.

The Midmar Mile takes place between February 6 and 9. The 8 Mile Swim is on February 6 and 7, where swimmers swim four miles per day.

According to Dwayne Kriek, one of the swimmers, the group of friends swim the Midmar Mile every year in memory of a dear friend, boyfriend and son, Justin McLean who passed away some years ago. Justin’s father, Kenny, is part of the team. 

Each team member must raise a minimum of R10 000. There is a funding profile for each member. Funds are completely for this charity alone.
