Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Local powerboat champion Renier le Roux travelled to Monaco last month to receive his world champion award from the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the world governing body for international powerboat racing, at its annual awards ceremony.

Hosted by UIM President Dr Raffaele Chiulli, the event saw 76 UIM world champions honoured for their achievements during the 2024 racing season, while a number of special awards were made including the crowning of UIM Driver of the Year Max Cremona and UIM Junior Driver of the Year Nicole Cadei.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - It was fireworks and scintillating performances all round during the 13th Matlosana Cup tournament hosted by Team Tom, Shinkyokushinkai on April 5-6 at the Banquet Hall.

The hall was packed to the rafters and spectators witnessed tough competition.

On Saturday April 5, the Matlosana team managed to collect 26 trophies in the junior division and the next day they were blessed with four of the best, bringing the total to 30 for the entire team. 

Over the weekend 189 juniors participated and 107 seniors exchanged heavy blows in a competition.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The round robin stages of the Varsity Cup have ended and the semi-finalists have been decided in dramatic fashion. The NWU Eagles trampled CUT 117-19, but ended fifth on the log, meaning they will not play in the playoffs.

UFS showed their pedigree by beating FNB Tuks in Pretoria, the Shimlas won with a bonus points to put them in 4th spot just one above the Eagles and Maties cruised past FNB Wits to claim top spot on the log and a home semi-final. This loss sees the Witsies stay bottom of the log to be automatically relegated to the FNB Varsity Shield.

The students of Stilfontein Pyro Kickboxing Club participated in the recent NW Kickboxing Trails in Rustenburg. They were all chosen to represent the province at the National SA Kickboxing Championships at the end of April in Newcastle, KZN. They are Chuan van Niekerk, bronze for continuous fighting and bronze for points fighting, Ivan Murray, gold for low kick light fighting and gold for continuous fighting, Shando van Niekerk, silver for low kick light fighting, bronze for continuous fighting and 4th place for points fighting, Vian Booyse, gold for continuous fighting and gold for points fighting) and (front) Vinay Kitching, gold for points fighting, Keanen van Niekerk, silver for continuous fighting and bronze for low kick light fighting and Biané Kriel, gold for low kick light fighting and gold for continuous fighting.
