Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - People were shocked to learn of the sudden death of a well-loved shopping assistant at Pick n Pay Songloed this week.
The supermarket announced the death of Erika Brits on its Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon April 8. Patrons to the store remember her as the friendly lady at the fruit and veg aisle. She died peacefully in her sleep. She was 62 years old.
Costa Demetriou of PnP Songloed describes Erika as a dedicated and loyal employee. She worked for them for over 30 years and was still on the job, two days before her death.
“Throughout the years, she devoted herself to exceptional customer service and quality control, areas she took immense pride in. Her warm presence will be deeply missed by our customers and everyone who had the privilege of working with her,’’ he said.
Her children and grandchildren are shattered by her death. “Our mother was a wildfire, steadfast in what she believed. She was a stubborn but warm hearted person. She was proud of her work and would work her fingers off to make sure we were provided for.’’
They describe her life as a rollercoaster ride but said she kept her head up high through it all. She was a devout Christian and often said God pulled her through anything and everything. Her children and grandchildren were her pride. “She will never be forgotten as she will always live in our hearts. We know we have received a guardian angel.’’
A memorial will be held on Friday April 11.
