Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Curro High School celebrated learners’ achievements of 2023 with a prize giving ceremony for cultural and sport highlights. The school’s grade 12 valedictorians were also celebrated.
Thato Tshabalala is this year’s Dux Scholar. She achieved an average of 88% and received her third Honour Society badge. She is the best student in English, EGD, Mathematical Literacy and Visual Arts.
Marco du Preez is second best and received awards for best student in Afrikaans FAL and Physical Science. Emmanuel Ucheya is the best student in Life Science.
Two dancers in Curro, Mitaylle Johnson and Bontle Tsatsi received an award for exceptional achievement with their prowess on dance stages all over the country. Both qualified to represent South Africa in Serbia next year for the Euro Dance International competition as well as a dance competition in New York.
Curro’s culture awards for 2023 went to Thuto Dlanjwa and Mameloo Phoofolo.
Emmanuel Ucheya and Tyra Kasonkomona were selected as the High School Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year.
The Danie van Rensburg Shield awarded to the matric learner in recognition for outstanding qualities was handed to Hellena Jason for exceptional leadership qualities, being a good ambassador for the school and having a strong moral fibre and integrity.
Emmanuel Ucheya is this year’s recipient of the Brother Matthew Award for being truthful, sociable, intense and helpful and displaying a good sense of humour.
