Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - A matriculant of Curro did the unthinkable! Laura Sarmiento wrote matric exams with a collapsed lung and she did very well.

She was admitted to Life Anncron Hospital just before the matric exams and decided to push herself and carry on. It was a case of writing the exams or waiting for the rewrites in May.

“I wrote ten of my subjects while in hospital. The IEB board approved my request to write the exams and one of Curro’s teachers was present all the time. I had a wonderful support system, even though I was in pain,” she said.

She achieved a distinction in Dramatic Arts and missed A’s in English and Life Orientation by one point.

She has been discharged and is recovering at home after surgery. “I am going to study biological sciences at NWU in Potchefstroom and plan to get private accommodation.”
