Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Two “brothers from another mother” both completed their 250th parkruns over the weekend.
Although Nantes Coetzee and Kevin Smit both started their Parkrun journeys on the same date (February 27, 2016) at Klerksdorp Parkrun when it was based at Makadu Restaurant, they only started walking/running together after they had completed 20 to 25 Parkruns.
According to them, it was their love for music that brought them together. Since then, they did the official milestones of 50 th, 100th and 250th together and have so far each run/walked 1 250km. They both did the inaugural event at Matlosana Bird Parkrun together and now during the 100th event obtained their 250th milestone.
Since starting Parkrun, it has become a way of life for both of them.
Saturday mornings are set aside for Parkrun, even their holidays and weekends away are arranged to enable them to do Parkruns in other towns. To date Kevin has done 21 different Parkruns including Bushy Park in the UK (where the concept of Parkrun began in 2004), whereas Nantes has done 19 different Parkruns across South Africa.
Between them, they have volunteered on 159 occasions, fulfilling just about every role.
They consider Parkrun as a way to meet people from all walks of life and enjoy fellowship between likeminded people.
