Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The winners of the North West Veteran Mixed Pairs competition were decided in Parys on October 10 with Klerksdorp Bowling Club managing to win the gold and silver medals.
In the quarter-finals, Cathy and Willie Venter beat Potchefstroom’s Christo Stoltz and Elien Theunissen 21 shots vs 19 shots on an extra end to proceed to the semi-final. In the other quarter-final, Dalene Peens and Piet Croucamp beat Magdel O`Donoghue and Frans van Niekerk 19 shots vs 14 shots to end up in the other semi-final.
In the other semi-finals, a team of Fochville and a team of Parys went through to play the two Klerksdorp veteran pairs. Willie and Cathy Venter then beat the Fochville pair of Colleen du Toit and Angus McDonald with 19 shots vs 12 shots to proceed into the final. The team of Dalene Peens and Piet Croucamp played the Parys pair of Lazuya Serfontein and Faan Stofberg with an end score of 15 shots vs 12 shots to proceed into the final.
The two Klerksdorp veteran pairs outplayed the rest of the other Northwest district clubs to play the final at Parys during the afternoon. After 18 ends it was Dalene Peens and Piet Croucamp with a victory for gold over Cathy and Willie Venter with 16 shots vs 12 shots.
