Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Ellen Pakkies, who has admitted to strangling her tik-addict son, endured years of abuse not only at the hands of her son, but also during her childhood.
Ellen, a social worker, will give a motivational talk at Alabama Secondary School in Isipingo Street, Alabama on September 6.  An award-winning film was made about her struggle with drugs and her decisions. The URCSA choir will present this talk. The theme of the talk is “From pain to purpose - A journey of strength and survival”. The tickets are R80 per adult and the talk will be held in the hall. Lentswe, Potchefstroom - The North West police community is mourning the loss of Captain Mpho Manyoba (47), a dedicated SAPS spokesperson who was stationed in Potchefstroom.
According to Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, her commanding officer, she passed away at about 11:00 on Saturday morning August 16. According to information received it is believed that she suffered a heart attack.

The Mother’s Union of the Holy Family Anglican Church in Jouberton had an outreach of giving food parcels to unemployed fathers who are lining up at the street corners of Leemhuis Street to take home to their families. One of the objectives of the Mothers Union is to help the indigent communities who are in distress. Seen are Lydia Matlhaku, Charlotte Melela, Kgalalelo Mosweu (chairperson), Betty Motata, Tumelo Motsetse, Ruth Chabaesele, Mpotseng Ntwagae, Anna Rayi, Wendy Marumo and Sarah Sebolecwe.

The independent order, True Templer, donated school uniforms to Nozizwe Primary School in Khuma on August 8. All sub-templers were represented. This contribution is from their own pocket. They also made donations to Tecford and Masedi Primary School. Simon Xakekile Makhafane is the chairperson.

Ladies from the All Saints Anglican Church celebrated the first week of Women’s Month with a Doek on Fleek event. The ladies are seen with their priest, Rev Lekoko and the organisers, Mother Kay Sephai, Boithabiso Lethena and Precious Selebogo.
