Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A Nigerian crime lord was arrested after more than R1,5 million worth in drugs were discovered at his flat in the CBD last week. Michael “Oscar’’ Okoya (51) was charged with dealing in drugs. He appeared in court on Tuesday 9 September and was remanded in custody. The case was postponed to September 17 for further investigation. According to Lt Col Tinyiko Mathebula, spokesperson for the Hawks, Okoya’s arrest on Monday September 8 stems from a search and seizure operation conducted at his flat in Anderson Street on September 2.

The Hawks, Crime Intelligence and TRT raided the flat where drugs including crystal meth, kat and mandrax were found. The drugs have an estimated street value of over R1,5 million.

Okoya was not home at the time of the raid.

“Members of the North West Provincial Anti-Drug Team and North West Tactical Response Team followed up on information, which led to the apprehension of the suspect.’’
