Lentswe, Kanana - A young woman of Kanana who had the calling to become a traditional leader, vanished 52 years ago. This past weekend, she was reunited with her family. Lentswe was told that her family have been looking for her all over, but had no idea where she was. They feared the worst but kept on hoping for a miracle.
Aumikie was 28 years old at the time of her disappearance. Nobody knew that she went to live in Thaba Nchung in the Free State and realised her dream of becoming a sangoma. According to Simon Makhafane, head of the traditional healers in Dr KK and the province, she was hunted by a spiritual leader and that is why she disappeared.
“But recently her family was told of a woman who was living in a cave and they went to Thaba Nchung where they found their long lost relative. It is a miracle after all these years!’’
Aumikie was released and returned to Kanana over the weekend, with only her traditional clothes that she was wearing.
She is a healthy 80 years old. Her grandchildren will now look after her.
Makhafane wishes the community will welcome her back and embrace her as she is now a prophetess.
