Lentswe, Stilfontein -  Duff Scott Hospital’s Primary Health Department is teaming up with the local police station in a joint effort to promote community health and well-being by launching a comprehensive Blood Pressure Awareness Campaign.
With the aim of raising awareness about hypertension and its associated risks, this initiative underscores the importance of preventive healthcare and early detection. High blood pressure, often referred to as hypertension, is a prevalent yet largely preventable condition that affects individuals worldwide.

Despite its widespread impact, hypertension often goes undiagnosed due to lack of symptoms, leading to potentially severe health complications such as heart disease and stroke.

A series of engaging events and activities kicked off on Wednesday February 21.

These activities include informative workshops led by healthcare professionals, interactive sessions on heart-healthy living, and complimentary blood pressure screenings.

“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to promoting health and wellness within our community,” says CJ van Niekerk at Duff Scott Hospital.

“By raising awareness about the importance of blood pressure management and offering accessible screenings, we hope to empower individuals to prioritise their cardiovascular health,” he said.

Law enforcement officers often face high-stress situations in the line of duty, which can contribute to elevated blood pressure levels and increased risk of hypertension-related complications. By engaging with the Stilfontein Police Station in this campaign, the hospital aims to support the well-being of officers and their families, as well as the broader Stilfontein Community.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Duff Scott Hospital on this important initiative,” says Col Gaolatlhwe Senwedi (Station Commissioner) at the Stillfontein Police Station.

Individuals are encouraged to participate in the Blood Pressure Awareness Campaign and take advantage of the resources and screenings available. By knowing their blood pressure numbers and adopting heart-healthy habits, such as regular exercise and a balanced diet, individuals can reduce their risk of hypertension and improve their overall well-being.
