Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Motorists and businesses received a welcome reprieve at the pumps this month following some mixed movements in fuel last month. As of 00:01 on Wednesday November 5, the Department of Mineral & Petroleum Resources (DMPR) decreased the fuel price across the board. According to Lebo Ramolahloane, National Vice Chairperson of the South African Petroleum Retailers Association (SAPRA), an association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI), the timing of the decreases is especially positive.

“As we approach the festive season and motorists begin planning their December trips, the fuel price cuts will bring welcome relief. Lower fuel costs are also encouraging news for commuters relying on public transport and for businesses across transport, agriculture, and logistics that are managing tight margins,” says Ramolahloane.

Petrol - Retail price: 93 ULP & LRP: 51 c/litre decrease and 95 ULP & LRP: 51 c/litre decrease. 93 will cost R21.12 and 95 R20.97.

Diesel - Wholesale price: 0.05% Sulphur: 21 c/litre decrease and 0.005% Sulphur: 19 c/litre decrease.

Illuminating Paraffin - Wholesale: 1 c/litre decrease and SMNRP: 1 c/litre decrease.

LPG - Maximum Retail Price: 61 c/kg decrease.

Ramolahloane adds that while the continued downward trend is welcome, volatility in global oil markets and currency movements remains a factor to watch closely. “This month fortunately saw Brent Crude oil fall to its lowest level in almost six months, with prices dropping to around the $61 mark during the period under review.”
