Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Acting on a tip-off, the police foiled a planned hijacking of a truck, transporting meat from Potchefstroom, with an estimated value of more than R500 000.
According to Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, this multidisciplinary, cross-border, Crime Intelligence operation by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, Drug Task Team, Tactical Response Team (TRT) Klerksdorp, Johannesburg K9, Carletonville Detectives, Gauteng West Rand District Rural Safety and private security companies led to the arrest of six suspects; aged between 28 and 48, on Thursday October 30, on the R559 road, between Carletonville and Randfontein.Â
The team pounced on the suspects, shortly after the truck was hijacked at about 07:45, and confiscated the truck, loaded with meat.
The police also confiscated three more vehicles that were allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The six suspects were expected to appear in the Carletonville Magi-strates’ Court on Monday November 3, on charges of hijacking and kidnapping.
The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, applauded the team for a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach to combat and prevent crime that led to the arrests.
