Lentswe, Kanana - The police registered nine cases in Kanana after the funeral of a gangster over the weekend. The funeral on Saturday March 9 came with its own challenges when mourners took to the R30 and disrupted traffic with reckless behaviour on the road. One motorist said cars were spinning on the road with crowds of people looking on. “As a motorist I felt threatened and could not see any traffic officers or law enforcement.’’

Col Adele Myburgh, provincial police spokesperson, said that a special task team was mobilised to monitor the situation. “At one stage, the members used stun grenades to disperse crowds. Most of the cases opened by the police include unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. All of the cases are gang related,’’ she said.

The funeral was for the men murdered in Orkney on March 2. They died in a hail of bullets while driving in Shalot Maxeke Avenue in what appeared to be an assassination. No arrests have been made.
