Lentswe, Orkney - A prominent furniture store in Milton Avenue was robbed of electronic equipment soon after opening its doors Saturday September 6. The robbers managed to sweep Lewis Stores clean of television sets, laptops and radios after overpowering the staff and locking them up in the kitchen. According to Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, the robbers pretended to be clients when they entered the store just after 09:00.
“There was one client in the store when they produced firearms, threatening the staff and manager. Everyone was taken to the kitchen area where they were bound with cable ties and locked inside.’’
The robbers then proceeded to clear the store out and got away with almost R400 000 in goods. Col Myburgh said that the store manager eventually raised the alarm when he managed to climb over the drywall to get back in the store. He phoned the police.
