Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A young scammer who used fake documents to buy a Toyota Landcruiser was jailed this week. Dantin Brits (27) was sentenced to five years behind bars after the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court found him guilty of fraud on Monday September 8. According to Lt Col Tinyiko Mathebula he was arrested in July 2023 when he applied to purchase the vehicle valued at R1.4 million at a car dealership in Klerksdorp. “During the application process an employee of the dealership noticed that the accused used documents belonging to a person who was based in the USA.’’
The dealership reported it to the Hawks and an entrapment was set. When Brits visited the dealership to finalise his contract, he was arrested.
The North West acting Hawks Head, Brigadier Georgia Moos, has welcomed the sentence and applauded the investigation team’s efforts.
