Lentswe, Klerksdorp - One of Kanana’s notorious tavern shooters was arrested. Good investigative work by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit culminated in the apprehension of the Lesotho man who was traced to Viljoenskroon on October 18. Thabo Justinus Letsie (36) appeared in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on October 22. He was remanded in custody and was supposed to apply for bail this week. The outcome is not yet known. He was charged with one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder.
Letsie is linked to the shooting at a tavern in the Kanana old location on October 4. Two males arrived and fired several shots killing a man while five people; a woman and four males sustained gunshot wounds. The suspects fled from the scene while the injured persons were taken to the clinic for medical attention and later transported to Tshepong hospital.
Brig Sabatha Mokgwabone said the cases were allocated to the Anti-Gang Unit for investigation and that led to the identification of the deceased as Mokhele Sephapho (46) from Lesotho.
Subsequently, the two gunmen were also identified as Lesotho foreign nationals.
Letsie was arrested on the murder charges after he was picked up in Viljoenskroon for contravention of the Immigration Act.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the investigation team for their tireless efforts that resulted in the arrest.
