Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A group of local dancers took their show to the National Arts Festival in Makhanda. Warriors on Wheels performed at the PJ’s Theatre. They comprise physically challenged dancers from Khuma and Matlosana. They were invited to participate at the annual National Arts Festival to perform among the best in the country.
Their theme for this year’s performance being the first of its kind, is dubbed ‘Right of Passage”, which seeks to create a dialogue about how physically challenged people relate with spaces; either inherent or by invitation challenges the social construct around the wellbeing of people living with physical disabilities.
Warriors on Wheels are professional dancers with over five years of experience.
They showcased their debut dance performance as a quest to challenge stereotypes around disability and the cultural and moral rights of disabled people.
These dancers stole the show at the National Arts Festival and are the founders of Kganya Disability Dance Group, under the banner of Warriors on Wheels. The performance was made possible by the National Arts Council of South Africa, and the Mmabana Sport, Arts and Culture Foundation.
