Lentswe, Klerksdorp - After nearly a month of school holidays, learners across South Africa returned to school on Tuesday July 22, as Term 3 of the 2025 academic year kicked off. With holidays over, families are shifting gears from rest to routine. Many are also asking: How long is Term 3, and what should we expect?
But they would also like to know when are the next school holidays?
South Africa’s Department of Basic Education has confirmed that Term 3 will run from July 22 to October 3.
That gives learners just over ten weeks of classroom time, roughly 53 school days, depending on individual school schedules.
Learners will get a short break in October before the final push of the school year.
Term 4 starts on October 13 and wraps up on December 10, leading straight into the end-of-year, summer holidays.
