Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The NW Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, specifically in the JB Marks Local Municipality. “The Department was alerted by a private veterinarian who visited a farm and noticed suspicious signs. The State Veterinarian collected samples, which were sent to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute (OVI) to test for the disease.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A nurse who was left paralysed after her vehicle hit a pothole in the NW, has been awarded R26.6 million in damages from the state.
The High Court granted the claim against the Department of Public Works and Roads in the North West earlier this year. In response, the DA’s Freddy Sonakile said that claims such as this are a direct result of the department’s failure to maintain the province’s road infrastructure.

Lentswe, Leeudoringstad - A 42-year-old Zimbabwean, Gordon Sibanda, was expected to appear in court again this week to apply for bail. He appeared in the Wolmaransstad Magistrate’s court on June 4. The accused who is facing a charge of illegal possession of illicit cigarettes, was arrested on June 2, after the truck he was driving was stopped and searched by the police at the Leeudoringstad /Orkney Road and found to be transporting 169 boxes of Chief and Remington cigarettes, all with an estimated value of R850 000.
