Lentswe, Klerksdorp - In preparation of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit on Friday October 20, Minister Sihle Zikalala for Public Works and Infrastructure visited the Klerksdorp Correctional Centre earlier this week to inspect the renovation of the facility. The facility is currently undergoing renovations to the tune of R94.4 million.It is an extensive initiative aimed at upgrading facilities and enhancing living conditions for inmates.

Lentswe, Jouberton - A teenager in the township tasted tinned fish while her aunt was cooking with it. It tasted “weird.”. According to Patience Galane, Asanda tasted the tinned fish on Tuesday October 17 and she started feeling ill very quickly. That’s when she checked the expiration date. “The fish expired in March this year, but it was still on the shelves. I went to the tuckshop to complain and asked the owner to take the tins off the shelf. What if a child dies after eating  it?”
She went back to the shop and the stock was indeed removed from the shelf. She intends to go with the owner to the store where he bought it.

Lentswe, Jouberton - A 40-year-old mother is still unconscious in hospital after her roommate discovered her lifeless body in the hostel room they shared. Her three year old daughter who was also in the room, was dead. Lt Col Amanda Funani, police spokesperson, said speculation that the mother and child ingested poison is at this stage premature.

Lentswe, Orkney - The home of the former ANC Councillor charged with murdering his wife was damaged in a petrol bomb attack last week. A vehicle parked outside the house was also set alight. Kanana SAPS are investigating cases of arson and malicious damage to property. No one was injured in the attack and it can only be speculated that it has to do with the murder charge against Sibusiso Kula.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A mob of angry taxi drivers killed a man suspected of killing one of their own by drenching him in petrol and setting him alight. Community members said Mzikayise Madala Qala (33) was necklaced but SAPS’ Lt Col Amanda Funani said she could only confirm that Qala was set alight by using petrol. Necklacing is a method of torture carried out by forcing a rubber tire drenched with petrol around a victim’s chest and arms, and setting it on fire.
