Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - ARTi Gallery in Dalew Street hosted the official opening exhibition of the breathtaking artworks from their AGAC 2024 finalists on Saturday January 18. This year’s theme, “Rainbow Renaissance: From Baroque to Braai”, was captured in the art works. The winners were announced at the end of last year and this exhibition is held to honour their works.

The adjudicators were Portchie, Marco Kuhn (AGAC 2023 winner, professional artist and art teacher), Daniel Tladi (acclaimed professional artist), and Robert Thirtle (gallery owner, curator and professional artist).

Brandewyn Brille by Sebastiaan Theart is the winning work. The artist wasn’t present. It is a painting, seen through coloured glass, of Rembrandt and the artist! Magnificent!

The pearl of Limpopo was placed third and the artist, Marguerite Small, attended the opening. She has a leather business and a seamstress called California posed for her.

A sculpture by Marlie Joubert called Painfuly enriched with a heavenly stitch can also be seen.
It is based on Frida Kahlo’s “The broken column”.

Get me the chutney, based on American Gothic, can also be viewed at the gallery.
