Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Gesond Vilakazi, the former captain of Jomo Cosmos, is opening pathways for administrators, coaches and Matlosana to scale the heights of the football world through the introduction of the GVF Sporting Chance Programme.
The GVF Sporting Chance Programme is all about exposing young talent, leadership skills, how to be a role model and to adhere to the DDD (discipline, determination and dedication).

The programme consists of three phases: life skills training, coaching clinics, and three football tournaments.

The goal is to provide an instructive and positive environment to the youth within the city to be a force to be reckoned with on national and international level.

“Pending the availability of funding, the aim is to select an u/19 squad out of the teams participating with four coaching staff members to tour South Africa (phase one) and then phase two to the United Kingdom.

The holiday programmes are scheduled to take place as of April 27 to December 21 accommodating over 3 307 youngsters aged between 17 and 19 years,” he said.

“The essence of the three tournaments are to bring together soccer fans, clubs and the general public from all over the city to come and compete in joyful soccer tournaments, to open pathways for soccer players to be identified, scouted and recruited by professional clubs in South Africa, United Arab Emirates, United States, Canada and Europe and to empower coaches of all participating teams by organising seminars where their coaching acumen will be enhanced with speakers sharing technical developments and sports science.

“ All participating players will be orientated on life-skills and coaching clinics.”

The Sporting Chance Programme consists of three tournaments: The Freedom Knock Out (April 27 to May 4), The Future Gen Knock Out (June 15 to 22) and The Matlosana Festive Knock Out (December 14 to 21).
