NOORDWESTER – KOSTER - Police in Koster disarmed and arrested a suspect for unlawful possession of a firearm on 7 February.
Meshack Mokone (50) was arrested after he tried to sell a 9mm pistol to a police officer at a hitch-hiking spot in Koster. According to reports, police made a follow up on intelligence about a man who was selling a firearm. Mokone was consequently arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm. He appeared before the Koster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 9 February, and was remanded in custody.
The accused is expected to appear before the same court again on Thursday, 15 February, for formal bail application.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded members of the community for collaborating with the police in making sure that an illegal firearm was removed from the streets and that the one who contravened the Firearms Control Act, 2000 was arrested.
