NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG - The Lichtenburg SAPS Crime Prevention Office and Crime Prevention Youth Desk representatives took part in an awareness campaign hosted by Thusanang Trauma Centre at 4-Ways Shell in Lichtenburg.
Various stakeholders including Fire Department, Home Affairs, Ditsobotla Local Municipality Traffic, Social Development, Department of Education, Men’s Sector and Office of The Mayor became part of this arrive alive awareness campaign. The campaign had a twist; a career exhibition for the learners that were present.
The purpose of this event was to mobilize learners from different schools within Lichtenburg to expose them to career opportunities available within the stakeholders that were present and alert them of the dangers or criminal activities that could hinder them from fulfilling their dreams.
Cst Sebothe explained to the learners the dangers of substance abuse, petty theft/crime, bullying and GBV. She encouraged the children to refrain from bullying others physically or via social media as it is harmful to the other person. Intern Boiketlo Gause also spoke to the learners about human trafficking and how dangerous it is to be loitering around the streets alone and night as they may get kidnapped and trafficked, and if not trafficked they can get raped and even murdered. An assimilation was done by Fire Department, Ditsobotla Local Municipality Traffic, Lichtenburg SAPS and Golden Eye paramedics to show the learners of what really happens when there’s an accident on the road. Traffic officers also sensitized them on how to behave or act when witnessing an accident. They must also obey road rules as pedestrians.
The Mayor of Ditsobotla Local Municipality, Thabo Nkashe together with speaker Cllr. Sehelo praised all the stakeholders present for an initiative like this to educate children, as most of the cases they are the ones who fall prey to such circumstances that were addressed. The success of the day will be when learners take what they have learnt home and implement it into their daily lives. Different stalls had assorted learning materials for guests and learners.
