NOORDWESTER - MOLOPO - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the Molopo Regional Court to Pako Tlape (35) for the murder of Isaac Soso Sebule (31), committed in July 2023. Tlape was also declared unfit to possess a firearm during his sentencing on 15 September.

Tlape pleaded guilty on 3 September 2025. The court heard that on 29 July 2023, he entered the Bhekindabazakho Tavern in Dithakong village, apparently searching for someone. Upon seeing Sebule, Tlape approached him and, without uttering a word, fatally stabbed him with a knife. The victim was declared dead at the scene. Tlape was arrested the same day and remained in custody until sentencing.
In aggravation, Prosecutor Nthabiseng Thabeng argued that there were no compelling circumstances to deviate from the prescribed life sentence, stressing Tlape’s lack of remorse and the senseless nature of the crime. A Victim Impact Statement, compiled by Sebule’s mother and facilitated by Court Preparation Officer Thembinkosi Madiba, described her ongoing fear, trauma, and the profound psychological impact of the loss.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Mathews highlighted that the victim’s right to life had been taken away and that nothing could replace a lost life. She further noted that while society is increasingly plagued by violence, it is the duty of the courts to ensure that lawlessness does not prevail. Tlape was accordingly sentenced to life imprisonment.
