NOORDWESTER – WOLMARANSSTAD- Sergeant Toki William Badirwang (46), employed at Wolmaransstad Detectives, recently appeared before the Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court on a charge of corruption. He was granted bail of R2 000 and will re-appear before the same court on Friday, 28 November.
Badirwang’s court appearance follows his apprehension on Monday, 13 October, during an undercover operation, by members of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU).
It is alleged the accused approached a local businessman (victim) and informed him about an alleged case against him and to pay money for the case to be withdrawn. The matter was then reported to the ACIU, who established that there was no case reported against the victim.
The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, said: “The arrest of this Detective Sergeant in Wolmaransstad, not long after the arrest of other police officers including Detectives from Rustenburg, Vryburg, Sun City and Mooinooi police, is a clear indication of the cancerous invasion of rogue and corrupt elements within the South African Police Service (SAPS), who must and will be systematically excised for the service.
“I want to therefore, send a strong message to him and others like him, that they do not deserve to wear the SAPS uniform or badge of honour, or to live among law abiding citizens, but must be sent to prison in orange uniform.”
