NOORDWESTER – BIESIESVLEI - Curbing bullying, dangerous weapons, sexual offences, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) , Biesiesvlei police in partnership with the Community Police Forum (CPF), visited Tlhalefang Primary School in February to engage with learners.
The organisation was accompanied by the Department of Social Development, Health, Love Life, New Beginning Support Group, Youth Crime Prevention Desk, Community in Blue Patrollers, Sector 2 CPF Sub-Forum, Family violence Child protection and Sexual offences (FCS) unit.
The program started formally with a word of prayer by the Youth Desk Chairperson Mr Letsogo, followed by the school Principal Ms Modise who welcomed all attendees. Ms Rakgotla the CPF District Treasurer outlined the purpose of the gathering - this initiative was intended at bringing change in the behaviour and conduct of learners towards criminal activities.
The program seeks to raise awareness, educate, strengthen and encourage learners to take responsibility for their part in ensuring a safe school environment. Captain Gausubelwe and Constables Selepe and Sejo from FCS addressed learners on sexual offences. Thereafter Captain Mahube, the Station Commander, presented on bullying. Mrs Sephiri from Department of Social Development engaged learners on the subject of GBVF.
Mr Moale from the Department of Health spoke to learners about teenage pregnancy and Ms Senokwane from Love Life gave learners insight about sexually transmitted infections. Sergeant Modise, the Acting Visible Policing Commander, delivered a wealth of knowledge on dangerous weapons while Mr Molefe and Mosadi from New Beginning Support group discussed the topic of substance abuse.
In conclusion of the day’s proceedings, learners could interact with presenters and Captain Mahube extended her gratitude towards the school management for the opportunity awarded.
