STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The nurses of Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital in Vryburg are now counted amongst the best in the North West Province as this was evident at the 2024 North West Department of Health Nursing Excellence Awards held at Sun City Resort on 23 May.
Sr Constance Kanatu (Professional Nurse- Ophthalmology) won the Cecilia Makiwane Award – Nursing Practice (Best Professional Nurse) which is bestowed for best clinical nurse, reserved for best effort and personal sacrifice in the cause of public service. As the recipient of this award Sr Kanatu, who has 17 years of service, was tested and had to proof that she is accountable and a reliable nurse, exercising professionalism, dynamic – can work in all settings of care, demonstrated advocacy for greater promotion of quality of life and also practicing according to ethical codes for nurse practitioners. Sr Elizabeth Reygaardt, (Professional Nurse- Oncology) won the MEC’s Special Nursing Excellence Award. As she was honoured by the MEC for Health, Honourable Madoda Sambatha, Reygaardt, with 32 years of service, had to proof to the panel that she possesses leadership skills and outstanding contribution to the Nursing profession from all spheres through portfolio of evidence. The hospital Chief Executive Officer, Ms Portia Tlou congratulated the recipients of the nursing awards. She further thanked all the nurses who entered the nursing services awards. “Indeed your efforts are highly appreciated” lamented Tlou.
Tlou further highlighted that, as the hospital they made a commitment to reposition the health care services despite the challenges faced with, and significant strides in positioning the health services has been gradually achieved. “It is my pleasure to lead such a team of dedicated, hardworking and committed employees. Nurses are unique souls that will pass through your life for a minute and impact in eternity. You are all appreciated,” concluded Tlou.
