RUSTENBURG HERALD - MOGWASE - The Mogwase Regional Court sentenced Thabo William Modibedi (39) to life imprisonment for raping his ex-lover. His conviction emanates from an incident that occurred in the early hours of 21 October 2018, wherein the complainant was approached by the accused at a tavern and asked her to go home with him. She refused, and Modibedi got aggressive in front of other patrons and started assaulting her. The complainant tried to escape but he caught up with her and continued to assault her, as he dragged her to his home.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - A peaceful demonstration by some 150 members of the Zinniaville Ratepayers Association to hand over a memorandum of grievances to Rustenburg’s Executive Mayor in protest against a hopeless water situation in Zinniaville took a turn for the worse when over eager and heavily armed security promptly pushed, shoved and manhandled protesting people from the municipality’s main gates area and pepper sprayed an innocent and non-aggressive member of the Association. 

RUSTENBURG HERALD - THLABANE – During a ceremony held at the Pentecostal Holiness church in Thlabane, 48 pastors gathered to celebrate a significant milestone in their mission to bring positive change within their communities. Sibanye-Stillwater initiated the Umsizi GBV and R.E.C.O.V.E.R.Y programme in partnership with the Greater Rustenburg Pastors Forum (an Interdenominational organisation). 
They work with around 70 faith-based leaders.

The Rustenburg Mayoral outreach program (Imbizo) has begun in earnest at Phatsima township on Monday (9 October). This is done in line with the planned schedule for the entire municipality. 
Cllr Thabang Rampou (MMC for Technical and Infrastructure Services) lead the program on behalf of the Executive Mayor, Shiela Mabale-Huma.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Magistrates’ Court here denied Sibongiseni Ngubane (33) bail after the state successfully opposed it. The matter was postponed to 9 January 2024 for further investigations. Ngubane is facing a premeditated murder charge for the death of businessman Ben Gumbi. The state argued strongly against the granting of bail after consulting with the investigating officer, Colonel Patric Murungwa. The state prosecutor, Faith Mogaki, argued that the state has a strong case against the accused.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court granted the reopening of the bail hearing on the Ben Gumbi murder case after an application by the defence. The matter was postponed to 5 October for closing arguments. 
Sibongiseni Ngubane (33), who is the accused in the matter, took to the stand and testified that he is an Uber driver and he will suffer loss of income if he is not released on bail. He further testified that his life would not be endangered should bail be granted. During cross examination, the state asked him why he used a stolen vehicle, which was later abandoned, instead of his registered Uber vehicle, as he claimed he was just hired to transport people to Rustenburg.
