Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - A local arts group from Randlespark has just returned from Nepal, after representing SA.
Thebe Arts Group represented the Setswana culture at the South Asia International Folk Festival in Kathmandu.
The group made history as the first Setswana dance group to perform abroad. The event featured guests from Germany, Estonia, Nepal, India, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Indonesia, Malaysia and Poland, and provided an exceptional platform for cultural exchange and appreciation.
The success of this international journey would not have been possible without the generous support of the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation in North West.
Eric Gabatlhalefe, artist manager of Thebe Arts Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the enriching experience gained from interacting with diverse cultures. “We have truly enjoyed and learned a lot from different countries around the world. Our aim was to showcase Setswana culture and introduce it to international audiences,” he said.
The journey to Nepal saw the group performing in various cities, receiving a warm reception from the Nepalese audience.
The group’s performance was hailed as exemplary, showcasing the beauty and vibrancy of Setswana dance and culture. The success of this trip marks just the beginning of Thebe Arts Group’s international endeavours.
