Klerksdorp Record, Orkney - Local government authorities visited several businesses in Orkney at the start of the weekend to check compliance to bylaws.

The Public Safety Directorate of the Matlosana Municipality in collaboration with the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Environmental health department conducted a clean-up campaign at Orkney CBD.

The operation, led by the Director Public Safety Keaobaka Boikanyo, was supported by departments such as Local Economic Development (LED), the business license department, and SAPS.

“The clean-up campaign serves as a crucial initiative to uphold consumer safety and ensure tuck shop businesses operate within the law.
“Also verification of legal compliance and the quality of goods were checked during the campaign in order to maintain public trust and safety within the municipality,’’ said Ntswaki Makgetha, municipal spokesperson.

The team also checked compliance for guest houses which involved ensuring that they meet local regulations and standards for safety, hygiene, and guest accommodation. This included fire safety measures, health and sanitation standards, and zoning regulations.
