Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The Matlosana Municipality is warning consumers against a scam where people are conned out of money by persons posing as municipal workers threatening to disconnect their electricity due to non-payment.

According to Ntswaki Makgetha, municipal spokesperson, there are allegations of scammers who claim to work for the municipality, on behalf of the credit control section.

The scammers apparently identify themselves as “Feroz Kahn” and they use the number 074 658 7563. “The scammer asks consumers to send e-wallets and cash send. The Municipality does not make use of these facilities.

“Consumers are advised not to allow these scammers into their properties, neither should they give or send them money,’’ she warns.
Municipal employees are currently conducting credit control actions through electrical disconnections and reconnections after the contract of the previous service provider ended on March 31.

Makgetha reminds consumers that all payments should be done at municipal offices or through fund transfer to the municipal bank account (eft) or pay@ and easypay.
