Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Various new speed camera warning signs have been erected throughout the city and they are not just for show.

Klerksdorp Record is aware of several motorists who have received speed fines via SMS after being trapped by a speed camera. It’s been a while that the local traffic authority utilised camera or radar for speed control.

Mayor Fikile Mahlophe launched the Syntell traffic law enforcement system on Thursday October 24 in Klerksdorp.

According to Ntswaki Makgetha, AD Communication and Marketing, this new system is operated in a special equipped bus and it will intensify road traffic management.

Motorists can expect smart roadblocks that use automatic number plate recognition, comprehensive mobile speed camera management, complete fixed camera management, remote issuing of summons and warrants and an integrated back and front office fine follow up service.

“The system will dramatically increase the effectiveness of the traffic authority and influence driver behaviour through increasing the overall payment rate of fines,” she said.
