NOORDWESTER - BIESIESVLEI - The South Africn Police Service (SAPS) observed Casual Day on Friday, 6 September. This day is celebrated every year to raise funds and awareness in honouring people with disabilities. Observing this day, SAPS, in partnership with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) accompanied by Community in Blue Patrollers and certain members from Sannieshof SAPS visited an identified male with a disability, George Whelan, to spend time with him.

The Chairperson of CPF Pogiso Dinana opened the programme with a word of prayer. Sergeant Mpho Setlhare, Communication Officer, highlighted the theme “I see you” which emphasises the recognition of the worth, dignity and uniqueness of persons with disabilities. Moreover, Warrant Officer Hellen Qwesha and Sergeant Rebecca Phutiagae presented Whelan with gifts, which included groceries, toiletries and a blanket. Whelan was grateful and glad, saying, “I am also remembered and honoured today; I really feel special”. Captain Thandiswa Mahube thanked everyone for their contributions and participation.
