BRITS POS – BRITS – Prof Theo Venter, a political analyst at the University of Johannesburg expects President Cyril Ramaphosa to be back in Parliament to deliver the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) after the election.
The one positive aspect of the speech, he said, is that the ANC clarified it is going for green energy and a just energy initiative focusing on Mpumalanga, which is ironically a model that was very actively pushed by former Eskom CEO, André de Ruyter.
John Steenhuizen, leader of the DA says none of the promises made by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his last five SONA speeches have ever been kept, and not a single piece of pragmatic, workable legislation has been tabled at the National Assembly to realise Ramaphosa’s ‘New Dawn’.

BRITS POS – HEBRON - Two friends who have been terrorising community members in Hebron appeared before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 February, for strings of cases. 
The suspects were arrested on Thursday, 8 February 2024, at Phase 3, Itsoseng after Hebron Detectives and Visible Policing acted on a tip-off. “Subsequent to the arrest, the police searched the room where the suspects were found sleeping and discovered a 9mm pistol, 10 rounds of ammunition, cellphones, plasma television and assorted liquor,” says SAPS North West spokesperson, Lt Col Amanda Funani.

BRITS POS – BRITS - In continuous efforts to keep the province safe and secure, high density “Operation Shanela” conducted in the Province between Monday, 29 January and Sunday, 4 February, ensured that 814 suspects were nabbed for numerous crimes.
The arrested suspects included 47 for drug related offences, 20 for illegal dealing in liquor, 30 for driving under the influence of liquor, two for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Furthermore, 165 arrests were made for serious and violent crimes that included murder, for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and 62 assault common and rape. Of the 814 suspects, 271 suspects were arrested during detective suspect raiding operations.
