BRITS POS – MMAKAU- Aspiring 12-year-old farmer, Fred Junior MacCarthy is a step closer to realising his vision of addressing child hunger in South Africa after receiving R20 000 worth of implements from Engen.
Junior, as Fred is affectionately known, runs the Garden School Project, which sees him visit schools to educate children about the fundamentals of growing vegetables.
The official handover of the garden implements, including forks, rakes, spades, watering cans, garden hoses, and wheelbarrows, took place recently at Motlhake Primary School, Mmakau near Brits.

Hulle het ook tyd by elke inwoner spandeer en toe is daar ‘n verrassing – Christine Venter (73) het vir die kinders ‘Stille Nag’ gesing en Brits Pos moes net by die vrou met die klokhelder stem gaan kuier.
Christine vertel dat sy as weeskind deur die egpaar Venter aangeneem is en op die plaas Goedgedacht in Ottosdal grootgeword het.
SAPS’s swift response ensures arrest
BRITS POS – MARIKANA - Marikana Visible Policing and Detectives responded to a business robbery in progress complaint at a wholesale store in the area in the early hours last week on Monday.
The 30-year-old Bheki Mnguni and henchmen fled the scene when police arrived, but Mnguni was arrested.

In die hartjie van die droogte staar ons boere ‘n opdraande stryd in die gesig om hul diere te voer. “Ons het dusver nog nie ‘n druppel reën in die Koedoesrand omgewing gehad nie. Daar is nie ‘n grassie in sig nie,” sê Danie Prins, TLU SA Noord-streekbestuurder.
BRITS POST OFFICE - A filthy, dilapidated disgrace
BRITS POS – BRITS – Homeless people took over the area where the post boxes at Brits Post Office are situated, leaving it in total disgrace and residents afraid and disgusted.
Years ago iron framework had been erected to solve this problem, but night after night these ‘overnighters’, crawl through the iron framework to find shelter inside the premises of the post office in the lobby where post boxes are. According to residents, the area has become an eyesore with litter, cardboard, a filthy smell, broken glass all over the floors and in front of post boxes. Surrounded by the criminal elements, collecting mail is now a safety concern.
