Life Anncron Hospital’s resident cardiologist and specialist physician, Dr Don Zachariah, has successfully performed the first mechanical coronary thrombectomy in the province. A thrombectomy is a procedure to remove a blood clot (thrombus) from a blood vessel. It is commonly performed in the cerebral arteries. Mechanical thrombectomy is an interventional procedure that uses a device to remove the clot. Surgical thrombectomy is a type of surgery that removes the clot from inside an artery or vein. This milestone underscores the cardiology team’s dedication to providing cutting-edge cardiac care to the community. Dr Zachariah is second from left.
