Klerksdorp Record, Stilfontein - The Matlosana-Stilfontein Animal Shelter confiscated 27 terrified dachshunds on November 21 last year.

Klerksdorp Record readers were appalled to read about the condition of the dogs and some even offered to adopt. Since reporting about the case last year, Suzette Kotze, owner of the shelter, told Klerksdorp Record seven of the dogs have since died.

“All the daxies are on drip once again of which seven died due to inflammation in the large intestine caused by the abuse and malnutrition by the hoarder/backyard breeder,” she said.

She is asking everyone who offered to adopt the dogs to be patient and to rather donate towards their vet account.

Due to harassment from the breeder she cannot name the vet. She added a criminal case is in progress. “The dogs are not ready to be up for adoption as they are still too sick. Their treatment can take months. Some have blood in their stools and they are not used to food,” she said.

She asks for support from the community. Their bank account is Matlosana Animal Shelter, FNB Cheque Account: 62620437691, Branch Code: 240538, Ref: daxies.
