Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - To keep members of the community safe, police in the province arrested 914 suspects during operations from March 25 and 31.
“The suspects were nabbed for various offences through the execution of several actions, which included stop and searches, road blocks, vehicle check points, visiting and inspecting of licensed liquor premises and second-hand goods dealers, tracing of wanted suspects and many others,” said Lt-Col Amanda Funani, police spokesperson.
She added the suspects were amongst others, arrested for rape, murder, assault GBH, malicious damage to property, burglary residential and business premises, possession of drugs, theft out of / from motor vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“Of the 914 suspects, 114 were arrested for contact crimes like murder, attempted murder, rape, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and assault common. Moreover, 432 suspects were arrested during detectives suspect raiding operations.”
The operations also culminated in the confiscation of variety of drugs, dangerous weapons, 14 cellphones, precious metals, 316 ammunition, seven firearms, liquor and four vehicles, while 51 shebeens were shut down.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the members who worked tirelessly during Easter weekend to ensure the safety of visitors and the citizens of this province.
