Klerksdorp Record, Stilfontein - Four police officers were arrested last week for their involvement in the escape of Stilfontein underground kingpin, Neo James Tiger Tshwaeli.
All four of the police officers worked on the Stilfontein Vala Umgodi operation. They were arrested on Friday January 31 and were charged with defeating the ends of justice.
WO Jack Motlhabya (37), WO Menzi Shabalala (38), Sgt Ntutuko Dladla (40) and Sgt Samkelo Mbotho (38) were released on bail of R1 000 each.
According to Brig Sabatha Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, internal disciplinary processes are underway.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng welcomed the arrest of the police officers saying no one is above the law. “We are pleased but at the same time disappointed in the arrest of our own. Let the law take its course. We are still searching for Tiger, we believe we will get answers soon by those allegedly responsible for his release from lawful custody,” he said.
