Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Matlosana Executive Mayor is still in office and not preparing to go anywhere.

Last week, Cllr James Tsolela refused to fell on the proverbial sword, despite the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC) recalling him and staff in his office confirming his resignation on Friday April 12.

A letter by the PEC circulated in Klerksdorp, where Mayor Tsolela is dismissed and instructions given to suspend CFO Mercy Phetla whose name once again was mentioned in a corruption scandal.

Nick Mapheele, spokesperson in the Office of the Mayor, confirmed the mayor’s resignation but an hour later retracted the statement “after consultation and verification with the leadership’’.

The Matlosana Municipality also issued a statement later that evening saying that Mayor Tsolela is still in office. The CFO is indeed however, suspended. “The community of Matlosana is informed that the Executive Mayor will continue serving the community of Matlosana.

“The City of Matlosana apologises for the miscommunication surrounding the Executive Mayor’s office,’’ said Ntswaki Makgetha, municipal spokesperson.

The DA’s Caucus leader, Cllr Johannes le Grange, initially welcomed the news of the resignation but later when it became known that the mayor is refusing to leave, he said that the DA will be bringing a motion of no confidence against him.

“This can force a vote to remove him from office,’’ he said.
