Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Local photographer Monique van Rooyen loves to push boundaries when she is behind the lens.

Her creativity when it comes to photography has earned her numerous accolades in the Klerksdorp Photography Club. She joined the club in 2017 but started her photography journey 20 years ago when she did her first photography course. “I must say when I have my camera with me, I am so happy,’’ shares Monique.

She says she is not someone for photographing nature or even people. Rather give her something dark and moody to photograph or let her play with her photography. That is where her editing skills come in and with photoshop manipulation she can be as creative as she wants to be.

Monique invites photographers to join the Klerksdorp Photography Club to be challenged and hone their skills. “We are challenged with monthly themes and there is also some training involved.’’

The props she use in her photography she has gathered over the years in thrift shopping or online. “The little couch I used for the couch potato photo was just the prop I needed. I just had it, don’t even know for how long but glad I could use it in a photo,’’ she said.
