Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The Rotary Club of Orkney handed out vocational service awards this week.

Recipients were Romke de Jongh, Tinus Kits, Edelweiss Collignon and Salomé Kotzé. In handing out the awards, Orkney Rotary president Johan Gerber said Rotary recognizes people who have achieved excellence in their vocation and provide outstanding community service.

Each recipient was praised for their work in the community and the difference they make. De Jongh is well-known for his work at City on a Hill church from where he facilitates the Work 4 a Living programme in Klerksdorp.

His commitment to uplifting people and providing help in several communities do not go unnoticed, said Gerber.

Kits, owner of the established butchery Vision Meat in Klerksdorp, received the award for his community involvement as a ‘silent’ donor to many charity organisations.

Rotary praised him for his big heart and open hands.

A lady with a heart of gold. This is how Edelweiss Collignon can be described for her work with senior citizens that stay in the Klerksdorp Old Age Home. They were transferred there from Witrand and Edelweiss took it upon herself to take them under her wing. As a hairdresser she cuts their hair, look out for their general well-being and host birthday and Christmas parties for them every year.

Klerksdorp Record editor received a vocational award for her two decades of editing the local newspaper, making tough decisions, staying true to herself without comprising the integrity and credibility of the Klerksdorp Record.
