Klerksdorp Record, Orkney - A giant has fallen in Orkney.
Tributes are pouring in after the death of Manual José Dos Reis, well-known businessman in town. He has been hospitalised for heart failure since December and took his last breath on Saturday night March 29. He was 77 years old.
Known as Manny or Oom Ponta in later years for his involvement in the well-known Ponta de Sol fruit & veg in Orkney, everyone knew him. He arrived in Orkney in 1974 and married the love of his life, Cecelia in 1975. Together they built the supermarket and developed it into a legacy over the past nearly five decades. Today, the third and fourth generations are carrying that legacy forward, ensuring that Ponta de Sol remains the popular small business it has become.
Manny is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held in Klerksdorp at Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church on Monday April 7 at 12:00, whereafter the funeral procession will move to Dawkinsville Memorial Park.
