Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - A firearm that was stolen in Wilkoppies 25 years ago, was recovered during a stop and search operation in Klerksdorp CBD.

Members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU) were on routine patrol when they noticed a suspicious red Mazda with two occupants in OR Tambo Street the afternoon of September 21. Col Adele Myburgh said they approached the vehicle and noticed the passenger fiddling under his seat.

“A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a firearm hidden under the passenger seat. They could not account for the firearm and were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Further investigations indicated that this firearm was stolen in February 1999 in Wilkoppies.’’

Edward Ramarumo Dodo Rooi (39) and Mogalatsane Ruphus Leshilo (41) were charged and appeared in Klerksdorp Magistrates court.

Leshilo was granted R1500 bail, whilst Dodo was remanded in custody after he was linked to two cases of murder and another of attempted murder in Kanana.
