Klerksdorp Record, Jouberton - The Matlosana Chess Academy hosted a tournament this past weekend at Ledibeng Centre (old Roman Catholic Church).
The mission of the academy is to make chess popular in the townships and produce world class players.
The attendance was good, with players from NWU Mafikeng, Johannesburg, Wolmaransstad, Leeudoringstad, Kanana, Khuma and Jouberton.
This tournament was made possible by the sponsorship from M109R Southern Africa, a bikers association. It was one of their community upliftment development projects. They thank Sandile Nkonqa who took the initiative that the tournament should happen.
They had four sections playing: Section A was won by Egeonu, Chigozi Section B by Atlegang Monchosi, Section C by Hanese Lunga and Section D by Moreki Tebogo. This tournament promises to be bigger and better next year.
