Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The owner of the Samambu Funeral Parlour, Peter Maponyane (34), was shot dead in his vehicle that was parked outside the business. The scene reminded of something out of an assassin film. It was raining while police officers processed the crime scene on Tuesday evening January 30.  Several shots rang out just before 20:00 killing the businessman sitting in his grey Mercedes Benz. He was probably waiting for his wife who was still busy inside the business.

According to the police, the suspects fled in a blue Audi Q7 and a white Toyota Quantum. Not even an hour later reports came in of an Audi found abandoned on the N12 near the Orkney bridge in the direction of Potchefstroom. The car overturned. There was no sign of the killers.

Lentswe learned that in September last year, this businessman’s father was gunned down in the yard of his home in Ikageng.

His murder is still unsolved.

Maponyane’s wife was too emotional to speak to Lentswe, but confirmed her husband’s death.
The investigation is sensitive, Capt Aafje Botma, police spokesperson said.

Only a few months ago, Lentswe reported about the owner of Mamokomane Funeral Parlour in Klerksdorp who was robbed and threatened in his Meiringspark home. Possible links in these cases are being investigated.
