NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG – Dierewelsyn is such an important shelter and safe haven in town with the least dedication and humanity from a great majority of residents.
It is very sad. Animal cruelty is something very hard to control or even change, although it can be reported to NSPCA or other institutions, it stays a distressing and heartbreaking matter. With this article we hope to create some awareness to limit the cruelty here in town.
During December a man threw a kitten out of a moving car in Bantjes Street. Luckily, it was seen and rushed to the Dierewelsyn where it was treated and now doing very well in its adopted home. Thanks to the swift action of people, it suffered no further harm.
As the cruel act was caught on a security camera this guilty person will be dealt with.
We had a terrible case of cruelty reported and because of the momentousness of cruelty the NSPCA had to step in. Two puppies were chained to a palisade fence with a heavy chain and locks, almost heavier than themselves. All animals on the property were confiscated legitimately by the NSPCA and a case of animal cruelty is being laid. One puppy died. Fortunately, it was reported and we appreciate this person’s boldness.
As usual, the fireworks were unacceptably bad again during the festive time. Alcohol played its part in many cases of the animal cruelty cases. A ginger kitten was tied to a cracker and lit. The kitten blew up.
Coldblooded, the same household terrorized the next door dogs by throwing firecrackers at them. The Dierewelsyn intervened but as soon as they left, the traumatizing of the animals and residents alongside continued. It continued several hours. Inhumane.
There were many animals injured and brought in by kind caring people. FaceBook and other groups ensured that some animals running in the streets were returned to their homes. Thank you for that.
Dierewelsyn have names of people who perpetrated the cruel acts and residents made security footages available.
These people are reported.
We appeal to residents of Lichtenburg area to report animal cruelty of all kinds. Animals must have access to shelter, food and water at all times as well as some exercise.
